How do I know if God is trying to tell me something ? (Intro)

I heard someone on a podcast ask “How do I know if God is trying to get my attention?”

I am a cradle Catholic, without any scholarly theological training.  I believe in the Holy Trinity, [God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit], three-in-one.

In my experience, God is here with us.  He is present in others all around us.  I believe I have experienced God working in my life, directing me, in at least three different ways.  The Holy Spirit has worked through me as I did his work, providing me support and comfort.  God has worked subtly in my life providing me direction that I only recognized in hindsight.  And every once in a while, God may slap me on the head, or pat my cheek lovingly, in order to get my attention, asking, “Are you listening, do you hear me?”

In my next three BLOG posts, I will share examples of how God has touched me in each of these ways.  I trust that if I look for God in my life, I will find him, but he is not always overwhelming.
