Too Close to Call!

Have you ever taken something personal when interacting with others at home, work, or school?  What if you could see it from a different perspective?

Well, I don't have enough digits on my hands and feet to record the number of times I have taken things personally.  Why I do that could be a topic for another day.  Most times when we are involved in a crazy situation it can be difficult to get beyond the strong emotions we experienced.  Our perspective of the situation is from "me", the person experiencing the emotions.  We are too close to the situation and are unable to consider any other point of view.

So I'm human, and your point is?

What if you were to rise above the situation, figuratively.  Step back and climb the stairs to your VIP suite, three hundred feet above the drama.  Gosh, that was a lot of stairs; I digress.  From this new perspective, look at the situation again.  See all the people involved, ask yourself what is each person's part in the situation.  Did someone not understand or maybe misunderstand the main point?  Is someone just having a bad day.  From this new viewpoint did the person, who looks remarkably like you,  read too much into a comment. Consider the situation from the perspective of each individual involved.

Chances are you may develop a different understanding of what occurred and be able to move on from the strong emotions.  You may discover that you were just too close to the situation to make the call.

It only takes a few minutes for you to consider things from a different perspective.  Never know, you may find that with repetition it becomes a natural response.
